Richard Rands

Managing Director

Richard is a strategic and policy development advisor with extensive experience throughout Africa and the Middle East. He currently provides analysis on politics, security and economics in sub-Saharan Africa to regional and international public and private sector actors. As a mediator, Richard also advises on the development of political and security strategies to resolve disputes and facilitate peace processes. Richard continues to assist companies and investors in the development of commercial strategies in high-risk environments. ​
A former director for a leading risk management consultancy and a regular military officer, Richard has held multiple senior leadership and management appointments over a 30-year career. He is currently the Managing Director at Acumen and an adviser to UK government departments on the development of strategies for Africa.

Clinton Wood

Clinton is an investment banking executive with 30 years experience across multiple industries, in challenging geographies. Clinton has a track record of generating superior returns through hands-on operational management. He is a founder in a gas-to-electricity project in the DRC; a former Executive Chairman and Chief Executive of a London listed mining company in Mozambique; and the Chief Executive of an UHNW family office in Switzerland. Clinton spent 17 years at Investec Bank after graduating as a chartered accountant and is currently a Director at Acumen Intelligent Consulting Ltd.

Mark is a strategic risk and management advisor with extensive experience in challenging environments in Africa and the Middle East for a wide variety of commercial and government clients. As both a highly experienced security professional and insurance broker, he is in the rare position of understanding how to provide holistic mitigation solutions for his clients risk challenges. A former director of both a leading risk management company and an insurance brokerage specialising in high risk environments, he was formerly a regular officer in the British Army. Mark is currently a director of Acumen Intelligent Consulting.

Robert is a risk management and business development executive focussed on sub-Saharan Africa. Strong ties to the continent, through both his family and professional connections, have enabled him to develop a nuanced understanding and have allowed him to translate and transact complex frontier business opportunities to the international private and public sectors, especially in the Horn, East and Central Africa.
A former regular military officer, Robert spent five years as a broker for a leading international ship-brokerage in London before taking over as the group business development manager for a risk management and security company in Africa. Having founded a boutique business development consultancy, he is now a Director with Acumen Intelligent Consulting.
